Where do I get lunch and breakfast for my children?
Grab-n-Go Meals are available at Thorp from 9:00AM to 1:00PM daily. If you do not live near Thorp, please visit the CPS Grab and Go Meal Locator for a school near your home.

How do I sign out a Chromebook to use during the school closure?
Please read and fill out the Chromebook Agreement electronically. You can schedule your pick up date and time, No Confirmation will be sent. Chromebooks are only available to our current Thorp students only.

What are our office hours during our school closure?
During our emergency closing there will be one our Administrators and Security in the building from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. Questions for Administration form is the best way to reach us for non-urgent matters. If you have an urgent request please call the school at (773) 534-3640 or text us at: (312) 600-7112‬.

How long are schools closed?
The State of Illinois has ordered all schools to be closed for the 2019-20 school year due to the national health emergency. All learning is happening remotely.

What do I do if need help with technology issues?
If you have a question about technology or if you have a tech support concern please reach out to Ms. Montemayor (kamontemayor@cps.edu) or Ms. Sanabria (mesanabria@cps.edu).

How do I get hard copies of printed packets if I don’t have a printer?
Printed packets can be picked up at the security desk after you have communicated with your child’s teachers. Most of Thorp’s students have access to Chromebooks and the internet, we are strongly suggesting that work be submitted on-line whenever possible.

How often should I expect teachers to interact with my children face-to-face?
Teachers will be interacting with students on a daily basis during their open office hours. Scheduled class times will be shared via Google Classroom.

How can I get a copy of the Google Classroom Schedules?
Schedules are shared directly with Students through the Google Classroom. Parents should request the classroom code from teachers to join their students google classroom. This includes Special Arts schedules. Please be mindful schedules will be updated to fit the students needs.

Why does my child have to fill out the attendance form?
The daily attendance form, let’s us know that your child is checking in with us. The attendance question will be a daily assignment in their homeroom.

Will the end of year tests (NWEA, IAR, Gifted, Algebra Exit Exam) be administered?
The majority of year tests have been canceled. However, we are awainting from Central Office Algebra and the Gifted exams to be given.

When will selective enrollment announcements be made for high schools and when will we know if our child was accepted at Thorp?
The Office of Academic Enhancement have made announcements for the first round regarding high schools during the first week of April. Announcements regarding academic centers and acceptance to Thorp will be made the first week of May.

What are the details on Promotions and Graduation?
We do not have an answer as of now, they will be forthcoming.

When will personal items be available for pick up including (Cap and Gowns, Autograph Books, Yearbook etc.)?
We are awaiting for guidance from Central Office until the end of the school year at the end of June.

When can I expect a refund?
Ms Sanabria is currently working with the Vendors for refunds. A credit can be used for the following school year, posted to another sibling or issued a refund via a school check by request only.

What can I do with software connection issues?
The software used by our teachers are managed by outside vendors. We are unable to control speed or connection issues.

How can I upload my students work?

What are the plans for Summer Funstitute? At this time no decision has been made. However, we are brainstorming idea’s on how to host a virtual interactive one.

Will there be an 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony? A Virtual Graduation is in the works to be show live on Friday, June 12th at 7:00 pm.

Why do we get alot of work from our Special Arts classes? Students are not required to participate in every Special Arts Class (ie Gym, Health, Library, Music, Art & Spanish). Students must chose at least one a week, if they chose to participate in additional special art classes that is ok but not required.
