Vital Information
Dear New Members of the Thorp Family,
Welcome to Thorp Academy! We would like to congratulate you on being selected in the CPS lottery process. As the principal of Thorp Academy, I am honored and excited to welcome your child to a school where they will learn, grow, and develop into the leaders and creative problem-solvers of tomorrow.
The next few years will truly be one of wonder and excitement. Your child will learn how to incorporate communication, collaboration, critical thinking, creativity and caring into each of their academic subjects. These “5C’s” will be the foundation for success both at Thorp Academy as well as in life after elementary school.
For over 100 years, O.A. Thorp Scholastic Academy has been nurturing critical thinkers that are ready to address the challenges of Chicago, our country and the world. Among our alumni are leaders in all walks of life. Many of these alumni visit us decades after graduation to tell us about the remarkable impact that Thorp Academy made in their lives.
Our Welcome to Thorp Virtual Open House is linked here. In the presentation, you will be introduced to Thorp Academy and what makes our school such a special place. I will also explain the Problem Based Learning approach that is at the core of our educational philosophy. Finally, you will get a chance to learn about the various parent groups that actively support our school. You will also get to meet parents from our Local School Council, Friends of Thorp, and our Parent Teacher Association. It is our hope that you will be able to begin building relationships with other families even before our school year officially starts.
If you require any additional information, please email our clerk, Mrs. Debbie Dean, at ddean@cps.edu. I look forward to meeting you as well as our new students.
Congratulations once again, and welcome to Thorp!
