12-07-2012
Dear Parents,
I want to remind the 7th and 8th grade students that there will be Saturday School along with detention tomorrow, December 8th. Students are to arrive at school promptly at 7:30 a.m. Tomorrow, December 8th will also be our Friends of Thorp Holiday Tree Extravaganza from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please come out, listen to our choir, visit our farmer’s market and take part of the holiday festivities. Thank you to all of our volunteers on Friends of Thorp for their hard work and dedication.
Parents, wait until you see the great gifts your children have bought for you at our PTA Lil’ Shopper’s Shoppe. Thank you to our PTA volunteers for your time and efforts and parents for your support. If you have not joined the Thorp PTA, please do so. Applications are available in the main office.
Also, let’s help our Thorp students by texting 853pbf and send this message to 95248. Clorox is sponsoring a grant that can allow Thorp to win $50,000 for a new playground. Please help Thorp by texting every day until December 19th. You can visit https://powerabrightfuture.clorox.com for more information. Please put it on your Twitter and Facebook pages and let’s get everyone you know helping Thorp.
On Thursday, December 11th our girl athletes in grades 5-8 will be attending a DePaul Women’s Basketball game. We would like to thank DePaul University, Mr. David Corzine – former Chicago Bull and current Director of Men’s Basketball Operations at DePaul and Ms. McGoldrick for their help in coordinating this trip.
The Student Service Council and Mrs. Gantz are sponsoring a Mitten Tree for the holiday season. If you have any mittens, gloves, coats, scarves, etc. in good condition that you would like to share with Thorp students and others who may be in need during this winter season, please bring them to the office. We will be distributing these items the week of the 21st. We will also be distributing the winter gear that have not been picked up in our lost and found – So please come by and make sure we don’t have any of your lost items.
Finally, parents and students – Emma Gomez, Class of 2012 is going through a very difficult time regarding her health. I would ask all of the Thorp family to please keep Emma and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
