Research Paper 1st drafts due MONDAY!
Though the calendar says Tuesday, October 16th, all students were advised this week that 1st draft papers are due MONDAY.
Writer’s block?
Tips for a GREAT 1st draft:
- 3-5 pages, 1″ margins, double spaced
- Times New Roman font, size 12
- Hook your readers in your introduction with a few focusing sentences to draw the readers in
- Your thesis statement should make an argument which you will defend for the rest of your paper, using your resources.
- Use an in-text citation (Author’sLastName, YearPublished) EACH TIME you use a direct quote, paraphrase, or summary from your sources. Cite each source as you use it, even if you have already cited it in the paper.
- Make sure your paper makes an argument about the THEORY BEHIND your experiment, without mentioning your experiment specifically. When you’re writing, think about why your research shows why the theory will work in all cases, not just yours with your specific materials.
- Reference Page: “Reference Page” centered at top of page. Alphabetized list of all sources used, following proper APA citations. Use KnightCite to format these references. 0.5″ hanging indent for any reference longer than 1 line. Citations have 1 line of space between them, but the citations themselves are single spaced. Reference page is a separate page at end of paper. Reference page does NOT count toward page count.
